Putting things in their right orders

Okay, after making a complete ass of myself (sorry, @Audiologmusic!), I realized I need to get my shit together. There’s just too much work that needs to be done.

What I figured out is that I need to limit myself to one project at a time. Otherwise, things just start boiling over and my head starts spinning and I’ll never get shit done.

First off, gotta finish that Weltkansler record. (Sorry again, @Audiologmusic!) Exams and real life got in the way of the two distinguished gentlemen during the summer, but this Sunday, things are picking back up. All of the backing tracks are mixed; most of the vocals are done (but unmixed). We just need the last few songs on tape (well, hard drive, really) before I can get to mixing.

There’s a little taste of things to come for you. It’s a track called DIESEL TECHNO and it is incredibly NOT MIXED work-in-progress. (There’s a disclaimer for you.)

Okay, so that’s number one priority right there. Mainly because we’ve been at it for so damn long and it’s gotta get done before we’re all completely sick of it.

We’re about two vocal recording sessions away from the mixing stage, which I’ll do by myself at home … which leaves me time for:

The next thing — which is the record that spurred on this little insanity/planning-trip you’re reading right now. Yes, I’ve been doing some stuff on-and-off with my good friend Audiolog, who used to be the lead singer/programmer in our old industrial band Kampf Mekanik (our old stuff is here). I keep telling him we should get together, then I back out at the last minute because my head can’t keep up. He’s a good sport about it, but I can’t keep doing this to him. We call it NO ROOM FOR SPACE and it’s cyberpunk-ish electro-hell.

We’re not big on showing our work in progress, so you’ll just have to imagine it when I say that the stuff we have got down on tape right now sounds hellishly awesome. It’s got 8-bit C64-bleeps mixed with hard-hitting industrial bass mixed with power-drums mixed with 90′s tracker-style programming mixed with the cutest, cuddliest melodies this side of Hades. I’m so psyched about it and that’s why it’s really killing me that I keep fucking this guy over.

So what about the Alchemy stuff? If I find the time, I might noodle some stuff out for myself. But the two aforementioned projects need to get off the ground first.

Music recommendations

Since I can’t actually do any music to impress your heads with, I thought I’d keep myself occupied with something that takes minimal effort.

So I’ve decided to hand out musical recommendations to anyone who wants to listen. On a daily basis.

If you just want the short skinny, just follow the Twitter-stream.

If you want a bit more story to go with your side of musical delights, check out my Google+ slice of heaven. Google+ doesn’t like artist profiles.

Either way, there’s a (mostly) daily music recommendation in it for you.

Feel free to throw some suggestions my way, too. I’ll retweet those that matter.

Disaster-struck

It’s happened again. I currently have no computer that’s sea-worthy, and by that I mean no studio.

Either I’ll rely on blind luck, as I often have, and hope that something useful drops into my lap. Barring that, I might invade one of my friends’ technically superior apartments/studios and drop some noise.

We’ll see. Stay tuned.

Some misc. tracks

It’s bin-a-whaaaaail, and I hope you haven’t been listening to Nickleback in the interim. New album still cooking in my brain, and I’m anxious to start recording, but I have some business to take care of first. Namely, the Weltkansler record, which is still not done.

In the meantime I’ve been playing around with a few other outlets for my noize.

Here’s a remix I did for Danish rappers Odense Assholes:

Here’s my Space Quest medley (from Disc Two) with a couple of Photoshopped Space Quest-images to go with it:

Would it kill you to go hit like with your personal YouTube powers? It may be unpleasant, but I can nearly guarantee it won’t kill you.

You’ve already seen the Mega Man 3 thing, so I won’t bother you with that one.

Anyway, stuff is always in the works — redesigning my label at the moment, and that’s taking forever — and a bunch of previously announced projects might not be happening after all anyway. So it always goes. So I’ll keep my mouth shut until I have something cool to show.

“A Life Worth Losing” soundtrack available now

I did the soundtrack for a freeware adventure game called A Life Worth Losing. I was the perfect choice, seeing as I was also the writer, designer and programmer of the game. What sound of a tooting horn? I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Also, check out the game’s website at www.alifeworthlosing.com where you can download the game. Also for free. I’m a free kinda guy.

All Alchemy albums, free of charge

I realized it was utopian of me to think that anyone would ever pay 30 DKK (approx. $5 US) for an Alchemy album download.

So I went in and changed things up at the Alchemy BandCamp site.

The following albums are now free to download in whatever form you choose (from high quality MP3 to even higher quality FLAC, Apple Lossless, etc.):

Complacency Kills (2007)
Everyone Loves a Murder Mystery (2007)
The Talent Show (Single) (2009)
Practically Sentient (2009)
Disc Two (Remixes) (2009)

Notice that you no longer have to buy Practically Sentient in order to get the remix disc Disc Two. It’s available on its own now, and feeling very scared.

Also, the Christmas EP A Very Alchemy Christmas is, of course, also still free.

Now you have no excuse. Go download an Alchemy album today.

Update I

It’s been quiet (yeah, too quiet!) in the land of Alchemy as of late. I’m here to change that.

Well, the story so far: I released an album called Practically Sentient. It didn’t do very well, neither with reviewers nor even with close friends. Then I did a short EP for Christmas (see posts below), which did a lot better – although to be fair, I didn’t send this one out to reviewers. But people said they preferred its sound over its predecessor.

For the last few months, I’ve been writing a good chunk of music on my two-stringed guitar, and I’ve actually got enough material that could fill out an album.

But I decided to take a break from music for a while so I could let everything gel properly. In its place, I’ve been spending most of my free time designing and writing an adventure game, which I hope to be able to tell everyone about in excruciating detail soon. (I’m really excited about it. It’ll feature some fun guest celebrities and lots of filthy language and…oh well. Soon.)

Of course, I can’t leave well enough alone – so even though I’m not doing my own stuff right now, I’ve still got my paws in a few other people’s music projects:

  • I’m mixing and producing vocals for the Teutonic electro-band Weltkansler‘s first album
  • I’m producing a small handful of tracks for Rune E., who’s doing his first solo album.
  • My old university band is doing a small 5-track EP of songs we’d written for the past three annual university song contests. Mainly so we’ll get played at the university bar. It’s a fun little project, kind of reminds me of the old days. I’m doing drums (okay, drum programming) and production.
  • I’ll probably be contributing at least one remix (maybe more) for my good friend Arnt, who just did a three-track EP. (Check it out. It’s good late-night electronica stuff.)
  • And I’ll also be doing some instrumental music for the aforementioned adventure game, even though there’s currently another musician attached to the project.
